LESSON 12

Lesson #12 (pages 60-63) incorporates more kitchen folly!  When food is involved, there are alway issues that are likely to arise.  Choking hazards, playing with food, the importance of eating all your food, not feeding the pets from the table, and the enjoyment of helping with the chores are all included in this lesson.

Primary lessons in this picture:  Safety with food and eating.

  • Develop a clear understanding of manners and safe eating.

    • Don’t try to eat too much at one time or take bites that are too big (Rico, pages 61 & 63).

    • Eat all your food (Meow Meow, Rico and Jesse, pages 61 – 63).

    • Don’t feed the pet from the table (Meow Meow, pages 60 & 62).

    • It’s good to help adults with the chores but don’t overdo it (Electric Socket, pages 56 & 58).

Plans of Action and Reaction:  Rules when eating:

  • Teach now before the accidents occur.

    • Issue: Don’t try to eat too much at one time or take bites that are too big (Rico, pages 61 & 63).

      • Action:

        • Teach children at the earliest age to take small bites and pace themselves when eating.

    • Issue: Eat all your food (Meow Meow, Rico and Jesse, pages 61 – 63).

      • Action:

        • Children are finicky eaters, but a valuable lesson is learning to concentrate on eating at the appropriate times. Team Little Bigs are your examples.

    • Issue: Don’t feed the pet from the table (Meow Meow, pages 60 & 62).

      • Action:

        • In order to help children understand this important rule, let them help when it is time to feed the pets.

    • Issue: It’s good to help adults with the chores but don’t overdo it (Jesse, pages 60 & 62).

      • Action:

        • Including children in the chores is a great way to teach responsibility. Jesse is always willing to help out, but sometimes she takes on a bit too much…

Conclusion:

Choking is always a possibility when food is involved.  Please take the time to teach your children the signal for choking once they are old enough to understand it.  Hopefully all your meals together will be enjoyable and safe.
